Letter from Nellie June 25th, 1941

In June 1941, Beany and Jerry were living together in St. Paul. Beany was working for Montgomery Ward but knew he would soon be sent off to basic training. At the same time, Milly’s husband Lorne was getting ready to be shipped off to Hawaii. Nellie missed her boys and wrote to them often. Keeping herself ever busy, a large part of Nellie’s days were filled with amazing amounts of house cleaning and baking.

“Dearest Boys,

Got your card thanks. I should have dropped you a card but I have been doing house cleaning again before my kids come home. Am so glad Beany don’t have to go yet. I hope he don’t have to go this summer at tall.

Last Sun Olson’s, Dad & I went up to Ortonville and fished. Had our supper along. If Milly leaves in Sept. Dad & I are going to take the trip to San Fr with her. It will be hard for her to go alone and Dad said he would like to.

Well boys will see you Sat. eve. I’ll have coffee ready. Winnie is driving all day today.

Love Mom”
