Lorne July 6th, 1941

May 26

Lorne Ward

Lorne In Uniform

Lorne left Minnesota on a train bound for San Francisco on the night of July 5th, 1941. The night he left, Lorne stopped by his parents house in St. Paul to say goodbye to them and his sister Elaine, not knowing when he would see them all again.  On the train, Lorne wrote a quick postcard to his family that he would mail from their first stop in Omaha.

“Dear Folks & Elaine,

That was a little tough last night. Maybe I should not have gone.

We are about 1/2 hour from Omaha and it’s a beautiful morning. We’ll have breakfast there and then we leave at 10:30 am  for West.

Love, Lorne”
