American soldiers display captured Japanese flag on Guadalcanal

“Dear J. & J.,

We got our box of candy this morning and the Valentines thanks so much. It sure was a beautiful Valentine you sent Dad and I. You kids can pick out such pretty cards always. Did you get the box I sent. I hope the bread didn’t get dry.

I’m baking two kinds of bread again today and biscuits and cinnamon rolls. Am having swell luck. Another blizzard here today and a very bad one last Wed. Milly has taught only two days this week. She was to have her Valentine party today at school. Now she will have to have it Monday.

We had a letter from Beany today. Hes going on maneuvers in California middle of March. I worry so about the boys now as they are going to hurry up this war and I know they will be sent. I only wished I could go in place of them.

Beany sent us $5.00 for us all to buy something for ourselves. Cliff sent me a big heart box of candy. We didnt get a letter this morning but maybe we will this afternoon.

Milly got 4 letters from Lorne the last one written Feb 1st. Its pretty tough for him were he is and said it was so many dead. He cant write much.

Thank your folks for the picture. Its sure good of them. Next time I’ll write you a long letter. Hope you feel better Jean.

Take it easy. Much love, Mom”
