Attack on Attu, May 1943
“Dearest Mother,
Mother’s Day has come and gone, but even though I am late, I want to let you know I’ve been thinking of you. Wish I could send a card, but this will have to do.
I got Pop’s letter and also Elaine’s yesterday. I did not know until then that Elaine and Doug were back in Mpls. Of course my mail was held up for awhile in the hospital.
I am feeling fine now and am back with the 35th Infantry again. I have a new job. There is no promotion but I am on the Regimental Staff now.
Don’t get any ideas that I’ll be back soon. Of course I want to, but this division really hangs on to their officers.
