Desert Training Center California

Desert Training Center California

“Dear Jean and Jerry,

Well-we finally finished the old grind and are back in our base camp- we were up near death valley in Calif. and it was pretty rough. Water and food were scarce because of the long distances they had to be carried.

We are going to stay here until the middle of August and then it is almost a certainty that we go to Camp Forrest, Tenn. It is a nice camp but about 80 miles from Nashville and Chatta. If I get a leave there I think I’ll visit Dolores- she will be about 500 miles from me.

I feel good but I lost about fifteen pounds. It is only buoyancy weight tho-the hot sun and desert wind seem to dry all the moisture out of your body. I’ll pick it up when we get back to normal eating.

I’m glad to hear you had a nice vacation- I had a good time fishing there too. I enjoyed all the pictures and am sending them on to Cliff. Send Hada these pictures that Dolores sent.

The allotment went thru for the folks and they should get their first check sometime in August. I think it will be forty some from both Cliff and I so that should take good care of them. I’m enclosing the two spot for my share of the shoes. I sent another camp paper- my article is on page 12.

Haven’t heard anything from O.C.S. but now I hope I won’t be called till fall as southern Ga. is a furnace this time of the year.

S’all for now kiddo’s and I should be back on schedule from now on in my writing.

Love, Beany”
