“Dear Jean & Jerry,
I’ve been here just a short time and have been rather busy getting somewhat settled and cleaned up again after the train ride. The trip was interesting but it was rather dirty on the train at times.
We came almost the same route as Mom, Dad, Milly, Susan and I came here two years ago. I hope to visit some of the same places but I probably won’t have time.
The pictures you sent were very good- I was surprised to see Beany dressed in civilian clothes. I am keeping one picture of the four of you and I’m enclosing the rest in this letter.
Thanks so much for the gifts! The ring is very nice and fits O.K. At first I thought it was a little large but after wearing it for a while I found it was O.K. The bag is fine, too. It is soft and collapsible so it doesn’t take much room in my barracks bag. I also received the Xmas card signed by all of you.
I met four fellows here who went to school with me over a year ago at O’Reilly. It was swell seeing them again. Andrew Holland is here and I intend to look him up as soon as I can. He’s been here for over a year.
There may be times when my mail will not come to you regularly. I’ll be sending most of it air-mail later on.
Did you receive my new address? I haven’t received any mail here yet but expect that some will be forwarded from our former camp soon.
Take good care of yourselves and write often. Thanks again for the nice gifts.
