Battle For Tarawa

Battle For Tarawa

“Dear Jean and Jerry,

No mail from you since I wrote last but expect a letter in a day or so. I just finished a letter to Beany. His last letter is of Feb. 14th. I imagine he is located at his new post by now. No doubt he was run down after his accident in the jeep and all the combat he was in. I had hoped he would be sent back to the States for a rest.

I got a letter from Butch Harstad, too, this week. He is out here somewhere now and said he had been through the campaigns at Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian.

It rained here last night and it’s cloudy and fairly cool this morning. It has been very warm most of the time lately, though. Has most of your snow gone now? You must have had quite a storm during the middle of Feb.

Have you seen Ward’s or Inga lately? I don’t imagine you have much time for visiting.

Love, Cliff”
