GIs Wearing Grass Skirts

GIs Wearing Grass Skirts

“Dear Jean & Jerry,

Received your V-mail of March 4th the day after I wrote you last- since then I got the Easter card and tonight, Jean’s very nice letter of March 15th. The latest letter from Mom is of March 12th and from Beany, Feb. 27th.

Mom wrote that Beany has been assigned as P.X. and Special Service officer. I think it’s a good break and I know he’ll like it very well. I hope he has received mail by now.

Glad to hear that Jack likes Engineering School and I hope he will be sent to another school when he finishes there. Greet him from me when you write. I imagine that sometime he will visit these un-glamorous Pacific islands. I hope it all ends before he is due for duty out here.

I saw the movie ‘To Have and Have Not’. I liked it very well. I think that Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall make a good movie team.

The past two days have been nice after almost two weeks of rain. Our fall season has started now- just the opposite from your seasons at home. There is no noticeable change here, though, except for warmer days during Dec. Jan. and Feb. The nights are usually quite cool due to the ocean breezes.

Jean, you mentioned that Beany sent you a box of powder from Paris. I would like to send everyone something, too, but there isn’t much to buy here. If you would like a grass skirt or a shell necklace I’d be glad to get it for you. Say the word!

Bye for tonight.

Love,

Cliff”
