Today I received your very nice package- thanks so much! It came in excellent condition and nothing was spoiled. T Shirts are what I needed as I wear them while on duty here. I wrote Mom yesterday to send some to me. The ‘cheer’ was a good treat- we are allowed a liquor ration now and will be getting the first of it in July.

“Dear Jean & Jerry,

Received your letter of Aug. 11th today, two letters from Mom and a check for ten dollars from the railroad company. The company explained the delay was caused by not having my address. Got a letter from Beany written July 31st- he was waiting for reassignment or a trip home. He should get back before the end of the year. I think I expect to be out here from six months to a year but sure hope to get home a lot sooner.

Well, things have been happening fast lately- we are waiting now to hear that Japan has accepted the surrender terms and that the war is officially ended. It is surely wonderful to feel that it will soon be at an end. I expect to be out here for awhile yet as there is still a big job to be done and there are many men to be redeployed.
